Rice Creek Regional Dog Park
Rice Creek Park is located in Shoreview, a northern suburb of the twin cities. It totals 13 acres and is fully-fenced. There is a large circle walking path that is made out of natural sand that totals about half a mile. I find with my dog, Ace, that it takes about 4 laps of walking before he is ready to take a nap. The best part is that this park is free! The not so best part is that parking is limited, so you may have to circle a couple of times to find a parking spot.
Fish Lake Regional Park
Fish Lake Dog Park is part of the Three Rivers District, a parks program in the Twin Cities. You do have to pay for the Three Rivers park locations, but they are so worth it. A daily pass will cost you $6 OR you can buy an annual pass that will cost $45 which gives you access to ALL the three rivers dog parks.
The Fish Lake park is about 7 acres, is fully fenced, and has a separate fenced area for small and frail dogs. There are great walking paths in the wooded areas, which are absolutely gorgeous when the leaves change colors in the fall. But make sure you pack your rainboots in the spring because it gets very muddy after the snow melts.
Elm Creek Park
Elm Creek Dog Park is the absolute best off-leash dog area in the Twin Cities! It totals 29 acres and is completely fenced. This park is also part of the Three Rivers District like the previous park, so you will have access to both if you buy the annual pass.
Elm Creek has wonderful walking paths in both wooded and field areas, a separate small and frail dog area, AND a wetland area where your dog can take a swim. The wetland area is fully fenced in though so no worries about your dog taking a dip without your approval. Remember to bring a towel with you so you can dry your dog off before you get back in the car.
There is one downfall to this park though which is that it is huge. Be sure that your dog has good recall before coming to this one because it may take time trying to track them down in the heavier woods areas.
Now your dog will burn that extra energy and you will be able to RELAX!
